Abstract:
In all-domain operations, due to the complex nature of battlefield environment and battlefield situation, namely multi-sourced, complex and high dimensional, timely dynamic, diverse and heterogeneous, it's still challenging to provide the demanding capability with traditional map products. This paper proposes a novel map product called Battlefield Pan-Information Map (B-PIM). The the concepts and characteristics of the B-PIM are discussed ; the technology framework of generating a B-PIM is introduced; issues in developing the B-PIM mapping service system are investigated along with several case studies. As demonstrated in the case studies, the B-PIM enables battlefield situational awareness with on-demand, real-time, and precision capacities inherited from location-based services, which illuminates the path of elevating the capacity and performance of the battlefield situational awareness with big data and artificial intelligence.
