Abstract:
The interaction and concurrence of physical, cyber and social activities are emerging as the new normal of current and future warfare for both conventional military operations for wars and recent military operations other than wars (MOOTW). To investigate and define this new trend, a new concept of “Social Cognition Operations (SCO)” is proposed and addressed along with the emergence of “Contemporary Mixed Warfare (CMW)” and “All-Domain Operations (ADO)” in this paper. Related historic backgrounds, conceptualanalysis, control mechanisms, and leading technologies are investigated from the perspectives of complexity sciences, transdisciplinary studies, systems engineering, cognitive computing, artificial intelligence, and computational social systems. Our goal is to establish SCO as a new paradigm or a new mechanism for future warfare management that reverses Karl Clausewitz's Assertion, i.e., making peaceful political solutions as a mean and continuation of wars.
