Abstract: Three-dimensional（3D）display technology is a key technology in metaverse and other fields. Using 3D display into the metaverse can merge the virtual world closely with the real world. The concept and classification of 3D display are firstly introduced, and the relationship between 3D display and metaverse is expounded. Then the development history of integral imaging （InIm）3D display technology is introduced. Considering that the development of InIm 3D display technology is limited by low resolution, narrow viewing angle, and limited depth of field of 3D images. The root causes of the poor performances of the InIm 3D images are analyzed, and the latest progress in solving these problems at domestic and abroad is introduced. With the continuous progress of science and technology, the performances of the InIm 3D display will be further enhanced, and the InIm 3D display will play an important role in the metaverse field.
